The Tangier Dialogue International Conference: Towards a New, Shared Enlightenment

High-level Moroccans and foreign personalities met in the city of Detroit on Friday, June 10 2022 for the commencement of the international conference, "The Tangier Dialogue".

The highly saluted initiative is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cooperation of Africans and Moroccans living abroad, in partnership with the Aladdin Project and the United Nations Civil Society Alliance (UNAOC), under the theme "Towards a new shared light".

The conclave attended by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, Mr Andre Azoulay, Adviser to His Majesty the King, and Mr Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad is aimed at discussing a number of issues of urgency and major importance linked to interreligious coexistence and intercultural dialogue.

Speaking during his video address at the opening ceremony, United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres stated that Tangier is a crossroads of cultures and a centuries-old hub of knowledge and is an ideal place to reflect on the state of global affairs and relations between peoples.

"Today, our world is in turmoil marred by hunger, poverty, pandemic, disasters, displacement, inequalities, and humanitarian emergencies. We are facing the highest number of violent conflicts since World War II. The only credible answer to this torrent of threats is international cooperation, multilateral action, and global solidarity" Mr Guterres stated.

During this meeting, participants will mainly discuss ways to build peace through culture, the importance of economic factors in the dynamics of relations between the West and the Islamic world, and issues related to new technologies and climate change in Africa and the Middle East, as well as short and medium-term prospects in the Middle East and North Africa
