Uganda: presidential elections set for January 14, 2021

The Electoral Commission in Uganda has appointed January 14 2021 as the polling day for Presidential Elections in the country.

11 candidates are running for the top job according to a list published by the Electoral Commission. Amongst the shortlisted candidates is incumbent president Yoweri Museveni. He was nominated at the end of May by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, for the next presidential election.

The race doesn’t seem easy this time for Museveni who will be challenged by young energetic and popular figures like musician Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as 'Bobi Wine'.

The musician who has won the hearts of many young people in the country is apparently the toughest challenger to President Musevini.

Bobi Wine who became a deputy was officially nominated as a candidate for his party, the National Unity Platform, (NUP). Nicknamed the "President of the Ghetto". 'Wine' has become the face of the country's political contestation, openly opposing President Yoweri Museveni. Through his pop songs Bobi Wine denounces certain evils, such as: Social Injustice, Poverty and Corruption.

According to the Electoral Commission, campaigns will run from November 19 until January 12, 2021. It also called on all nominated candidates, their supporters, their agents and the general public to observe the guidelines that have been issued by the Electoral Commission.
