Sochi Forum to Address Russian-African Cooperation in Energy Sector


One of the sessions of the Russia–Africa Economic Forum’s business programme will focus on ways for Russia and African countries to develop cooperation in the energy sector. The discussion will be attended by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin, Secretary General, Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Yury Sentyurin, Minister of Energy, Mines and Environment of the Kingdom of Morocco Aziz Rabbah, Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, Vice President of Transneft Mikhail Margelov, Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive Officer, Group Managing Director of Notore Chemical Industries Plc Onajite Paul Okoloko.


“Through progressive development and reforms, African countries could become some of the largest economies in the world by 2050. Today it is important to lay a reliable foundation for the growth of the region’s energy sector and develop a future policy in the fuel and energy industry. The continent’s natural resources allow for taking the fuel and energy industry to a new level and building sustainable international partnerships in the energy sector,” Novak said.


The session participants will discuss how to utilize international partnerships to create a competitive landscape and increase efficiency as well as how the ‘green agenda’ will impact the development and diversification of investors as a guarantee for ongoing development.


The Russia–Africa Summit and Economic Forum will take place on 23–24 October in Sochi at the Sirius Park of Science and Art. The events are being organized by the Roscongress Foundation, and the co-organizers of the Russia–Africa Economic Forum are Russian Export Center and Afreximbank.
